Prerequisites: This course is for students who have experience reading vocalised Arabic with fairly good pronunciation and have a limited knowledge of basic Arabic words and phrases.
Description: The course will cover the key aspects of essential grammar governing non verbal sentence as well as the first elements of verbal sentences. This includes the basic past and present tenses and the imperative mood. Students will also learn:
- The ordinal and cardinal numbers.
- The nominative, accusative and genitive cases
- Comparative and superlative adjectives
- Word roots and patterns
- Prepositions
- The broken plural
- The detached (personal) pronouns
- The demonstrative pronouns
- Dialogue practice
Textbooks: Gateway to Arabic Book Three and Gateway to Arabic Extension Book One by Dr. Imran Hamza Alawiye
Other materials: Students will be provided with vocabulary and dialogue handouts as well as relevant audio recordings.
Assessment: Weekly homework and a simple test at the end of the course
